Page 1 of 2 The Importance of Knowing where Your Business is Going! By Christopher Fielder, Author “Never Say Buy, Never Say Sell” Vice President of TEAM Funding Solutions “Your C-Credit Funder” In today’s economic times it is now more important more than ever to understand where you business is going in the future. You may have heard the quote “a business with no sign is a sign of no business” well I believe that “a company without a sales forecast based on metrics it a sign of a business that is flat and not growing year over year.” In other words, if you do not know where your business is going your business will not go very far.So many of us as small business people get up in the morning in a “routine” that never changes, then we go to work where we do the same things over and over again and expect to see different results. Or we do something that produced a specific result at a given period of time that will produce a different result today. What can you do to get out of this “routine” and take your business to the next level? While it sounds simple it is just a matter of keeping score, knowing what score you want to achieve and then successfully conveying this information to your sales force and staff. I know of an event that Dell Computer implemented driven entirely from metrics. Dell figured out that if they could keep each employee at their desk another 15 minutes over lunch the employees would receive and process around 2 more calls each and thus generate millions of dollars in additional revenue. The solution was to bring in a box lunch for every salesperson and have them eat at their desk. Dell would do this for the last week of each quarter during “crunch time” and almost always meet their sales goals. |
